Remember that pudgy kid back in high school? The smart straight-A student who always had a smile on his face and was everybody's friend, including the entire faculty. He was never quite popular with the girls though, that is, until college came along. It's as if he went through a complete makeover overnight. Now a lot slimmer, dressed sharper, and well-groomed, he's the nice guy everyone wants to be friends with in the university - all of which the all-new 2013 Toyota Vios wants to be when it made its world debut at the Bangkok International Motor Show.

Besting 147 other vehicles in 23 categories, the Toyota Vios was voted as the Automobile of the Year of the 2012-2013 Auto Focus People's Choice Awards (AFPCA) in October. On top of that, the Vios also won the Model of the Year in the Subcompact category. And as a testament to its victory, the tried and tested sedan is not just Toyota's, but also the Philippines' best selling model.

The AFPCA, organized and conducted by Sunshine Television Production and Marketing Services Corp. (STV), is a nationwide public poll to determine the country’s most popular automobile brands and models. The overall score is based on total unit sales from January to September 2012 (60%) and votes from the three-month online poll on Facebook (40%). Sales figures does not include used imported and grey market vehicles.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has issued a voluntary recall of 22,000 units sold between 2006 and 2010 over a faulty Power Window Master Switch last Wednesday, October 10, 2012. This is part of a global campaign that affects 7.43 million vehicles worldwide to fix power window switches that may get stuck, produce smoke, and potentially cause a fire. Affecting more than a dozen models globally, the local recall covers the Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Vios, and Yaris. There has, however, been no reports of major injuries from the problem.

The Vios 1.3J is one of the most affordable models currently offered by Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP). It might not have those fancy features or extra bling the other Vios variants has, but it has continuously met buyer’s standards, especially when it comes to fuel economy. Within the model's five-year life cycle, the entry-level Vios has received several upgrades such as power windows and power door locks to make life more convenient. But as it now nears the end of its term, TMP came up with a kitted special edition called the Vios 1.3J Limited to give it one last hurrah.

Some might still recall when two years ago, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) put together a special one-off Vios that was packed with parts from TRD. It came stuffed with wrap-around bodykits, sport dampers, and an exclusive badge that read “TRD Sportivo.” Though it was not sold as a complete package, you can still buy the parts at your local Toyota dealership piece by piece. Only problem is, it'll set you back in the region of P200,000, on top of the tag price of a brand-new Vios.

Well, TMP is now sharing its blessings to all us by making the new revamped Vios 1.5G TRD Sportivo available in showrooms nationwide, at a price we can now realisticly afford.

500_mainToyota Motor Philippines (TMP) began production of completely knocked-down (CKD) and semi knocked-down (SKD) units at its plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna back in 1989. And 23 years later, what is now the Philippines' largest automaker marked yet another milestone when they celebrated the production of their 500,000th vehicle - a brand new Toyota Innova - in a ceremonial line-off held at TMP's headquarters last March 8, 2012.

“This milestone is a testament to the unrelenting devotion to excellence of every Team Member who helped make Toyota Motor Philippines what it is today,” remarked TMP Vice Chairman Alfred Ty. “We shall further solidify Toyota’s partnership with the Philippines while continuing to contribute to economic development in the country. We shall constantly innovate ourselves to meet the dynamic needs of our customers and remain committed to help shape a more progressive future for the Philippines.”

Toyota on a breakaway lead in the Philippines

Based on CAMPI's latest report, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) can now sit back and relax as it secures a dominating lead over the local automotive industry. As it holds on to its No. 1 position with a firm grip, TMP just beat its own all-time record last October with 5,895 units sold.

Toyota also heads the Passenger Car (PC) segment with a 51.5% market share of 1,957 units, 1,466 of which were comprised of Toyota Vios', the country's No. 1 selling vehicle. In addition, the Japanese giant stretches its lead in the Commercial Vehicle (CV) category by registering its highest ever sales of 3,938 units sold last month, taking a 40.6% chunk of the market. Surprisingly, the Innova was able to increase its sales from the month of September with 1,317 units sold despite the looming arrival of its replacement next year.
