After running three rounds, it's time for the 2013 GT-Radial Circuit Showdown to level up the competition for its drivers. And by leveling up, we mean running the full track of the Clark International Speedway (CIS) at the 4th leg of this season last June 1, 2013.

The long course proved to be quite a challenge for all the 90 drivers on track, newbies and series veterans alike, so much so that it shuffled the classes that the drivers usually run in. This just proves that the country's prime grassroots motorsports event is here to help develop their competitor's skill and talent.

The 2nd leg of the 2013 GT-Radial Circuit Showdown was held last April 6, 2013 at the west short course of the Clark International Speedway (CIS). With over 100 registered drivers and having a grid race with 35 cars on track simultaneously, this was by far their biggest and most successful event ever. Add to that the hundreds of spectators that turned up at the event, earning the championship series the tile of "most sought-after circuit event of its time."

Apart from the newbies and usual suspects, Nino Garcia had to sit this one out in the sidelines after his Subaru Impreza STI retired in the previous leg. And while this marks Carlos Anton's return to the series, his time would not be counted in the overall standings as his green Mark Young Racing Honda CRX were not using approved tires.

As some of you might already know, one aspect used to determine a new Car of the Year Philippines (COTY-P) are the results gathered from the Technical Test performed at the Clark International Speedway (CIS). And for the 2012 - 2013 edition, all 80 nominees had to subjected to acceleration (0 to 100 km/h), braking (100 to 0 km/h), and handling (slalom) tests.

Although the Technical Tests have been performed every year since the award-giving body was formed, this is the very first time we could remember that the Car Awards Group Inc. (CAGI) published the official performance results for public viewing. Not only will this help in guiding consumers choose which car to buy, but it will finally put to rest claims of which one's the fastest.

After spending nine days for Qualitative Tests at ETON Centris, Quezon City and another four days for Technical Tests at the Clark International Speedway (CIS), it all comes down to this. On the eve of April 4, 2013 at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), there will be a newly-crowed Car of the Year Philippines (COTY-P) for 2012 - 2013. But before last year's COTY - the Hyundai Elantra - hands over its throne, the Car Awards Group Inc. (CAGI) has published this year's final nominees.

The list includes 80 vehicles competing in 20 Categories, plus the coveted Car of the Year Philippines title. But new for this year is a Truck of the Year Philippines (TOTY-P) award that separately recognizes the bigger cars in the bunch.

Want to learn how to race cars the right way? Here's your chance. Tuason Racing School (TRS) is once again accepting enrollees for their 1-day Basic Circuit Racing Class this coming April. They'll teach you the basics on threshold braking, downshifting, racing line, and track lapping under the guidance of none-other-than multi-titled racing champion, JP Tuason.

All you need to have is a valid driver's license, ability to drive a manual transmission car, and P18,000 for the course fee. But for those who are underage and have no license, TRS is willing to make an exception. Just get a written consent and certification from either a parent or guardian stating that the enrollee knows how to drive.

The penultimate round of the 2012 Lateral Drift Championship was staged last November 24, 2012 at the Clark International Speedway (CIS). Held in tandem with Emperor Motorsports' 0 to 400 Challenge and Circuit Showdown's Time Attack, the high octane action started as early as 7 o' clock in the morning and stretched all the way to midnight. This gave the event's 2,000 plus spectators a one-of-a-kind motorsports experience.

This is only the series' second-ever night drift at the circuit - the first time being last year's Round 4 which was won by Atoy Llave. But we're sure that Atoy won't have a chance repeating the feat as he sits out this round with a fever. Also missing out on the action is title contender David Feliciano of DMF Drift who was also unwell. That leaves the top pro championship contenders - Audel Sison, Alex Perez, and Boodie Dabasol - to fight it out. The three entered the round with only 31 points between them, making this one hell of a battle. But it goes without saying that the odds are against five-time champion Alex Perez who has sadly never won in Clark.

As the championship battle heats up, the 2012 Lateral Drift Championship takes the challenge a step further when it invades the Clark International Speedway (CIS) at night on November 24, 2012 for Round 5. They teamed up with Emperor Motorsports' 0 to 400 Challenge and Circuit Showdown's Time Attack to create a whole day of high octane action.

The Time Attack first takes the track from 7:00AM to 2:00PM. Then, from 2:00PM onwards, the drag race and drifting go side-by-side as they burn up some serious rubber until midnight.

bcleg2_mainBridgestone puts its 4x4 and SUV tires where its mouth is by staging the second round of the Bridgestone Cup at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) last September. This leg is geared towards demonstrating the Dueler All-Terrain (A/T 697) and Dueler Mud-Terrain (M/T 673) tires, both for on-road and off-road use.

Organized by the Philippine Allied Enterprises Corp. (PAEC), Bridgestone Tires' official distributor in the country, two challenges were prepared to demonstrate the logic of using the right tire for the right “off-the-paved-road” driving condition. And to keep a level playing field, we were divided in to teams of two - one experienced driver matched with a less experienced one. As a veteran of the rough stuff, I was partnered with Kotse.com Assistant Editor, Carlo Sapera.

Adding new bumpers, lights, and rims isn’t enough to merit a six-year-old SUV and pickup a second-look; they would need more power, more toys, and more fun. At last, a year after Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) launched the new 2012 Fortuner and Hilux, they have received the message that the pair needed more than just a cosmetic upgrade. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the new and improved Toyota Fortuner and Hilux.
