AVID back on track with 8% sales growth in March 2013
Recovering from February's dismal 20% sales decline, the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) bounced back in March 2013 by recording an 8% year-on-year growth. Tally from 7 out of its 11 members, who actually published sales figures, show that the group sold 3,027 units compared to last year's 2,792.
But what really strikes us is that, for the first time since AVID was formed, their monthly report now detail Passenger Car (PC) and Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) sales as separate figures. This gives us a better idea how well each of their model perform.

The Hyundai Azera's appearance at AVID's Innovation Congress is more than just for display

If you went to the AVID Innovation Congress (ICON) held at the Bonifacio Global City earlier this month, then there's a good chance that you saw the new Hyundai Azera that was on display. Classified as a full-size sedan, it's bigger than the Sonata and smaller than the Genesis sedan (not Coupe). The model has been on sale since 2011 in countries such as South Korea and the US, but not in the Philippines. Well, this should come as good news to some of who want to travel in a bit more style: A representative from Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) has confirmed to us that they're finally ready to bring the Azera here.

Chevrolet's new 2013 Spark glimmers at AVID Innovation Congress

After spending three years in the market, the Spark is sadly starting to lose its sparkle. Newer micro cars have emerged in the past few months that have outshined it. So, like what any other car manufacturer would do, they've given it a quick facelift to make it new again. We've first saw photos of the 2013 Spark as early as 2011, but at last, it's here. This, boys and girls, is the new 2013 Chevrolet Spark that made its debut at the recently-concluded AVID Innovation Congress.
The new facelift has changed the front and rear ends ever so slightly, but as they say, the devil is in the details.

The chaps from the Assocation of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) is staging their Innovation Congress (ICON) this week to convene the top minds from government, business, and academe under one roof. Why? Well, they want this group of intellectuals to “tackle global trends in innovation and current issues and policies that affect the automotive industry.” Big names such as Maria Ressa, Alfredo Yao, and Hyundai's Creative Design Manager Casey Hyun will take the stage and give their 2 cents worth about “innovation.”But if the ICON Forum is not your cup of tea, maybe their Innovation in Mobility Expo is more up your alley. AVID sales down by 20% in February 2013
This is definitely not the way to start the year. 7 out of 11 members of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) have just reported a 20% sales drop in February 2013. Collectively, they recorded only 2,303 units sold compared to the 2,881 units from February 2013. On a year-to-date (YTD) standpoint, that's still a 11% decline in just the first two months of the year.

Hyundai Sonata designer Casey Hyun to visit PH in AVID Innovation Congress
Casey Hyun is Hyundai Motor Corporation's Creative Design Manager. This guy has worked on projects such as the Sonata, Accent, and i30 - leading the design process inside and out. As head of Hyundai's design team, Casey is credited for leading the team that developed, refined, and implemented Hyundai's “Fluidic Sculpture” design philosophy which has shaped all of their cars today. And this coming April 5, 2013, Casey is flying to the Philippines to give a talk about “Smart mobility in smart cities” at the Innovation Congress (ICON) organized by the Assocation of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID).

AVID gets a steady start in 2013
In January 2013, the cumulative sales from members of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. (AVID) reached 2,625 units. Not bad, but not that great either. That's because it's only 1 car less than the group was able to sell in the same month last year. Still, AVID's report show that January's sales figures is a 23.4% growth from December 2012 thanks to the 43% expansion in the Passenger Car (PC) segment.

AVID sales drops by just 1% in October; Keeps 18% growth in 2012
Six out of the 10 members from the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. (AVID) has collectively tallied sales of 2,241 motor vehicles in the month of October 2012. That puts them only 1% shy of last year's 2,254. Not bad. Do care to note though that Motor Image Pilipinas, the official distributor of Subaru in the country, wasn't an AVID member yet last year, so you're looking more at an 8% drop technically. However, the group's performance of 24,004 sales total between January to October is still 18% better than the 20,340 sold in the same period last year.

AVID prospers in July 2012; 27% growth beats industry's 11%
The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) is having a blast this 2012 as they record yet another great month of sales. Last July, six of its members sold a combined total of 2,128 units, which is a remarkable 19% growth over the same month last year. On a year-to-date basis, this sums up to 18,017 units sold and earns AVID a 27% growth from the 14,195 units sold in the same period last year. Even more impressive is the fact that they were able to surpass the overall industry's growth of 11%.

AVID thrives 31% in Q2 despite industry's 1% fall
While the rest of the Philippine automotive industry declined by 1%, the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) enjoyed a strong start for the second quarter of 2012 with a 31% growth. From January to April of this year, AVID members were able to sell a total of 10,633 units, compared to the 8,119 in the same period last year. On top of that, April's overall total sales also rose by 12% versus the same month in 2011.
