With a car this big, there's plenty of room for choices starting with the nine of 12 different paint finishes available locally. (Misano Red is a real head-turner!) The A1’s roof arch is a very distinctive feature, so it’s only right to have four contrasting hues to pick from. Choose wisely.
With the exteriors finally chosen, it is time to step inside. There are two different equipment packages - Attraction and Ambition - from which a handful of add-ons and materials can be selected to better suit individual tastes. Each of these equipment packages cater to the different personalities of each owner. Attraction focuses more on the emotional aspect, while the Ambition package goes for a sportier vibe.
The units flying into the Philippines come with the Ambition package, which comes with the likes of sport front seats, a high-gloss exhaust tailpipe, sports suspension, and driver information system. The Ambition package also comes with the S Line exterior package, marked by an aerodynamic roof edge spoiler, Audi Exclusive 17-inch cast alloy wheels in 5 twin-spoke design, LED daytime running lamps with Xenon plus, and an embossed S Line logos in the front and back seats. There are more multimedia gadgets and add-ons included in the A1. So much, in fact, that stating it would be exhaustive.
The A1’s sporty facade is only matched by its equally athletic powerhouse. The local A1 units will be powered by four-cylinder Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) turbocharged 1.4 TFSI engines mated to a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, which can be operated as an automatic or a manual - whatever is your pleasure. Paddles on the steering wheel are available as an option. Either way, this front-wheel drive hatchback moves like a dream. Power flows through its gears quickly and effortlessly.
The A1 is a jock that worked its way to the honor roll. It received numerous awards including “Best of Supermini” in 2011 and 2012 in the United Kingdom as well as “Best of Small Car 2012” in Germany. As such, one would not expect economic fuel consumption from a hatchback of this stature, much like football quarterbacks not expected to ace Algebra exams, but the A1 impresses with a fuel consumption going as high as 18.86 km to the liter. It is also equipped with a Recuperation system, which - so to say - recycles kinetic energy from braking to useful electrical energy for accelerating, boosting fuel savings by up to 3%.
Overall, the Audi A1 is truly a marvel of technology and style. It is meant for the decisive and aggressive. Aggressive, especially; only 30 units of these S Line superminies will be flown into the Philippines, so strike while the hatch is hot. And with that much equipment and add-ons infused into its every aspect, the A1 is a fine example of a good investment. After this initial batch, the only the regular 1.4L TFSI A1's will be offered by Audi.
