Circuit Showdown, the Philippines' largest motorsports gathering, officially kicked off the 2012 season with its first leg at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC), last March 3, 2012. Sponsored by GT Radial, over 70 entrants competed in the Time Trial event, while 25 cars went head-to-head for the feature Grid race, with participants coming from as far as Cebu and Davao. There were even a few supercars in attendance, a yellow Ferrari F430 Scuderia and a white Lamborghini Gallardo, that competed in the Time Trails and hyped up the excitement.

Grid Race
With hundreds of spectators cheering on the grandstand, it was Paolo Mantolino in his Subaru Impreza Spec C who came out on top in the Grid A race. Following closely behind were Eggy Ong and Ferdinand Sia in second and third, respectively. It was definitely a tight battle for the seven-lap race, with only 15 seconds separating the top four runners.

Meanwhile, a total of 14 drivers lined up on the starting line for the Grid B race, where Don Andaya successfully defended his lead to finish on the top spot of the podium. In second and third were Alan Arguelles and Rico Cheng, who crossed the finish line with a less than three second gap to Andaya. And in Grid C, first timers Onyl Malabanan, Sandy de Guzman, and Eugene Uyboco take the top three spots.

Time Trials
Running on BRC's short track, Carlos Anton topped the time sheets in Bracket A running his green Mark Young Racing Honda CRX with a best time of 1:28.074. Joby Tanseco, on the other hand, only managed second fastest and was almost 2 seconds down on Anton, while Marc Thomann, who was another 2.7 seconds off, grabbed third.

In Bracket B, the top three drivers were only separated by a mere 2 tenths of a second, with Jun Cruz taking top honors with a lap time of 1:37.677, followed by Rafael La'O, and Philip Alvendia. The battle was even tighter in Bracket C where Don Andaya's fastest lap of 1:43.729 was only 0.077 second quicker than second placer Jessie Manze. Rico Cheng also managed to just whiz by the final spot on the podium with a mere 0.042 second lead over fourth placer Edwin Rodriguez.

To everyone's suprise, 14-year-old Polo Bautista clocked in the fastest in Bracket D, followed by Hervie Lao and Christian Sedano. In Bracket E, Grid C winner Only Malabanan bags another victory for the day and is joined by Ton Ton Ramos and Michael Schvenke. And sealing it off for Bracket F, it was a sure podium for Patrick Chan, Eugene Uyboco, and Roland Malad.
