azera main
If you went to the AVID Innovation Congress (ICON) held at the Bonifacio Global City earlier this month, then there's a good chance that you saw the new Hyundai Azera that was on display. Classified as a full-size sedan, it's bigger than the Sonata and smaller than the Genesis sedan (not Coupe). The model has been on sale since 2011 in countries such as South Korea and the US, but not in the Philippines. Well, this should come as good news to some of who want to travel in a bit more style: A representative from Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) has confirmed to us that they're finally ready to bring the Azera here.

Whew! After a dismal start to the year, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) is finally back on their feet after posting a 4% year-on-year sales growth in March 2013. In total, Hyundai tallied 2,327 units sold versus the 2,245 units in March 2012. Although it's not enough to offset January's 7.5% and February's 31% sales drop, it's more than enough to boost their spirits and work even harder for the remaining nine months of the year.

2013 isn't starting to well for Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI). After experiencing a 7.5% year-to-year sales drop in January, sales tumble even further in February. Sales totalled 1,631 units sold which is not so bad for a car brand in the Philippines, but is a huge 31% drop from the 2,369 in the same month in 2012. And according to their official press release, the decline is caused by “unstable local supply due to strong global demand.”

Highs and lows for HARI in January 2013

hyundai logo
Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the country, reported a 32% sales growth for the first month of 2013 by selling 1,992 vehicles as opposed to the 1,505 units in December 2012. While that sounds quite remarkable, what they're not telling you is that the month's performance is actually 7.5% lower than what they achieved back in 2011, or 161 cars less to be exact.

Thankfully though, sales of Hyundai's Passenger Car (PC) models performed exceptionally well in January 2013, posting a 65% increase from December with 1,236 units sold. They sold a total of 967 subcompacts (EON, i10, Accent), 243 compacts (Elantra), 9 midsize sedans (Sonata), and 17 sports cars (Genesis Coupe) last month.

AVID gets a steady start in 2013

In January 2013, the cumulative sales from members of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. (AVID) reached 2,625 units. Not bad, but not that great either. That's because it's only 1 car less than the group was able to sell in the same month last year. Still, AVID's report show that January's sales figures is a 23.4% growth from December 2012 thanks to the 43% expansion in the Passenger Car (PC) segment.

It was around five months ago when we first got to drive Hyundai's much-awaited Accent hatch that's fitted with a CRDi VGT engine upfront. Back then, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official Philippine distributor of the Korean marque, told us that they were expecting the five-door subcompact to hit showrooms before 2012 ended. But it's now 2013 so where exactly is it? Well, after a few delays, HARI is proud to announce that the Accent CRDi VGT hatchback is finally available at Hyundai dealerships nationwide.

HARI ends 2012 on a high note with 8% growth

hyundai logo
In 2012, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, sold a total of 21,996 cars, vans, SUVs, and trucks. That's an 8% increase from 2011's 20,297 units and an average of 1,833 units a month. Not bad Hyundai. Not bad at all.

Leading the numbers is the Passenger Car (PC) segment that has experienced a 25% growth from 2011. And of the 13,382 units they sold, 10,009 were subcompacts, 3,000 compacts, 286 midsize, and 87 sports cars. According to HARI, the shove is mainly attributed to the Eon that helped complement the performance of the Accent and Elantra. But when you really look into the details, there's actually a significant sales decline in their midsize sedan and sports car which are none other than the Sonata and Genesis Coupe. Although they didn't say what caused this downtrend, it's probably yet another supply problem.
